The Nun 2’s mid-credits teases The future of The Conjuring

The Nun 2's mid-credits teases The future of The Conjuring

HITC contemplates The Nun 2 mid-credits scene that offers a fresh evaluation of The Conjuring franchise’s incredibly promising future.

Directed by Michael Chaves, The Nun 2 is a sequel to 2018’s The Nun but is more importantly the ninth installment in The Conjuring Universe which began with James Wan’s The Conjuring in 2013. Since that first film, we’ve had two Nun movies, three Annabelle efforts, The Curse Of La Llorona, and two Conjuring sequels. The third was The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and The Nun 2 mid-credits scene forecasts that it’s not over for the Warrens just yet.

The Nun 2, mid-credits scenes explained

The Nun 2 begins with the credits rolling after Irene and Debra successfully send Valak to Hell. Then, an extra scene is shown that brings together familiar faces.

We are invited into the house of Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga respectively. The telephone rings and Ed picks it up to discover Father Gordon on the other end.

Steve Coulter has played Gordon, a priest throughout the entire franchise. He explains to Ed and his wife that there’s an emergency he needs their assistance with. “Yes, father. How can we help?” he asks, giving a look to Lorraine to suggest she prepare for another taxing case.

The previous Conjuring movie ended happily for the couple, with Ed showing her a gazebo reminiscent of the one they kissed in after placing an artifact from the case they’ve solved into their ultra-creepy room of mementos.

However, this extra scene at the end of The Nun 2 confirms they’re due a return, so what’s next for The Conjuring?

The Warrens return in The Conjuring: Final Rites

The Conjuring: The Last Rites sequel has been confirmed, and Patrick and Vera will reprise their beloved roles. The Nun 2 mid-credits sequence directly facilitates the investigative pair’s return.

“This is going to be that final chapter, so it is a little bit of a tease of that,” The Nun 2 director Explained In a recent Entertainment Weekly interview, she discussed the topic of feminism.

Despite teasing the fourth Conjuring movie as the “final chapter”, it’s unlikely that this will affect further spin-offs and sequels to those. For example, it’s closing the door on further mainline Conjuring movies, not necessarily further Annabelle or Nun movies, etc.

While no release date or plot has been revealed yet, it will be interesting to see if the case the Warrens are called in on has anything to do with The Nun 2’s Maurice, who was being used by Valak as a vessel.

Whether Maurice is involved or not, we have one last case with the Warrens confirmed for The Conjuring series’ future.

‘The way my audience went UP’

Needless to say, the prospect of more time with cinema’s favorite paranormal investigators has pleased The Nun 2 audiences no end.

Fans have flooded the credits with praise.
