Michigan Family Saved from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning by Hero Cat, Aptly named Thor

Thor the kitten, a Michigan family’s pet, has lived up to his superhero name after saving them from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Heidi Stamper was unable to turn on the power in her Farmington Hills home, so she had set up a portable generator in her garage. What she didn’t know was that her husband and two kids were also being poisoned by the odorless, colorless gas.

“About 1:45 in the morning, the cat started screaming and it woke me up,”Stamper spoke.

Stamper took Thor outside when he was feeling unwell. Thor seemed to have recovered after Stamper brought him outside. She then took Thor back inside, and he fell back asleep.

“Half an hour later, the cat started screaming again and it woke me up, but this time, I had sweat through all my clothes. I wasn’t able to move. I felt really sick to my stomach,”Stamper spoke.

Although the home did not have a carbon monoxide detector they were able to use Thor. All the noise and commotion, the children woke up and dial 911.

“Thor played a crucial role in saving the family of four. All four of them were suffering severe effects of carbon monoxide poisoning,” Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh said.

“Just the thought that I wouldn’t be here to see my kids, that’s really scary,” an emotional Stamper said. “We wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Thor. He saved our lives.”

After the family had left the hospital, they installed carbon monoxide detectors.
