A bottle with a handwritten note inside, which originated from Ocean City in Maryland, was recently found on the beaches of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Irish Central reported.
Ciaran and Rita Simmonds from Belfast found the glass bottles, which contained a message as well as U.S. dollars bills, on a beach at County Donegal earlier this year, Irish Central reported.
“We knew, anyway, we had a message in a bottle, so we got really excited,”Marron shared his story NBC Washington.
“It’s like a childhood dream to find something like this,”Simmonds spoke for Donegal Daily. “We’ve found amazing things on the beach before, like fossils and stones, but never anything like this.”
According to NBC Washington, the couple read the handwritten letter, which was written by Sasha Yonyak, Maryland. He tossed it in 2019 in the Atlantic Ocean with Mr. Wayne.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing,”Marron spoke to NBC Washington. “It’s something you sort of dream of as a kid, you know, to find this bottle and take you on some magical trip.”
After getting the bottle, the Northern Irish couple found the little boy’s father on Facebook and began chatting with him.
“It’s just meant to be, about Sasha,”Simmonds stated to NBC Washington. “The universe has just brought us together.”
Through conversations with the boy’s father, they found out that Mr. Wayne, who was their elderly neighbor, passed away in 2021.
Sasha, who was 11 at the time of the experiment, is now 14 years old. However, he says he intends to keep in touch with his new friends across the globe and hopes one day to meet them in person.
