Google Maps: How to locate the location where JFK was assassinated

It was Friday, November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas when John F Kennedy (then-President of the United States) was shot by a gunman.

Kennedy was in a motorcade together with Jacqueline and Texas Governor John Connally. Connally’s wife Nellie was also there.

Here’s how to locate the location where JFK was killed and then explore it in 3D.

  • Google Earth can be opened on your computer. It has better graphics than Google Maps but they both feed the technology of each other.
  • In the upper left corner, click the search button (shaped as a magnifying lens).
  • Enter the following coordinates: 32.77903, 96.80867
  • Google Earth will bring you to Dallas Texas, where JFK was murdered.
  • You can explore at your own pace, by using the double-click function of the red pin that will take you to the location of the motorcade.

What happened to JFK?

After spending the morning at Fort Worth, President Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy took a short flight to Dallas where they joined a motorcade, which planned to weave its way through downtown Dallas.

It was supposed that it would end at Trade Mart, where President Kennedy was scheduled to speak at luncheon.

At 12.30pm, the car turned onto Dealey Plaza.

The President sank down onto Mrs. Kennedy as the vehicle passed the Texas School Book Depository.

He was shot in the neck, and head.

The governor was also wounded, but eventually recovered.

The car made its way to Parkland Memorial Hospital. There, a Catholic priest performed the final rites.

Who murdered JFK?

Lee Havey Oswald, a worker at the building from the sniper shots, was taken into police custody.

He was being held in connection with the assassination and murder of Patrolman J.D. Soon afterward Tippit was taken into custody.

Oswald was to be transferred from Dallas’ police headquarters to the county prison on Sunday, November 24th.

The live TV coverage was seen by viewers across America.

Oswald was killed two hours after being shot at Parkland Hospital. This is the same hospital where President Kennedy was also announced dead.
