YouTube Removes Abortion Misinformation Videos

YouTube will unpublish videos that feature abortion misinformation after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last month.

YouTube announced in a thread on Twitter that it would take down “content that provides instructions for unsafe abortion methods or promotes false claims about abortion safety under our medical misinformation policies.”

“Like all of our policies on health/medical topics, we rely on published guidance from health authorities,”The thread went on. “We prioritize connecting people to content from authoritative sources on health topics, and we continuously review our policies & products as real world events unfold.”

YouTube announced that it had launched an information panel which will provide viewers with context from local and international health authorities in relation to abortion-related content. YouTube has cited National Library of Medicine’sThe information panel’s goals include the definition of abortion.

Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court in June.
