YouGov ranked the best and worst accents in the British Isles and it’s sparked debate

YouGov reshared a 2014 poll on the best and worst accents in the British Isles and it’s sparked debate.

YouGov posted a poll to respond to a tweet that asked about the worst accent. The poll found that the Birmingham accent was most unattractive. “Southern Irish”Accent to be the most appealing.

Low on the list were the Mancunian, Scouse, Cockney and Glaswegian accents, while received pronunciation, Welsh and West Country accents were highly rated.

People who called the term out in the poll were enraged by it. “Southern Irish”She objected that Ireland be included in the umbrella of “the British Isles”.

John Ruddy, who responded to the poll, created a video that showcased the diversity in accents throughout Ireland. This highlights the fact that even within Dublin there is a wide range of dialects.

A similar criticism was levelled at Welsh due to its variety of accents.

Some wondered where the rest are the Scottish accents.

Others were shocked by the results and confused at how different accents were grouped under one umbrella.

One Twitter user took a lighter view of the poll. Asking: “Which one is Henry Cavill? I could listen to him read the dictionary.”
