Enigma marks the return of Win Metawin and Prim Chanikarn to television screens after a long wait. In an exclusive interview with HITC, the stars give the inside scoop on the new series – from working together on F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers to the challenging new thriller.
They instantly made fans swoon and became fan favorites after appearing in F4 Thailand Boys Over Flowers. Win Metawin, Prim Chanikarn (aka Primiily) and the World TV Series Enigma are back in a new mysterious avatar to dazzle audiences. Ahead of the thriller’s conclusion with the final episode, Win and Prim spoke to HITC about the challenges they faced working on this new project which is notably different from their previous acting stints. The two also talked about the experience of working together on screen again.
Win and Prim talk about their Enigma characters’ complexity
GMMTV’s new series Enigma stars Win As the mysterious and dark teacher Ajin, Prim Fa, a student. The thriller revolves around a high school’s strange and disturbing events that pull Fa into the dark world of Ajin.
As the compelling project steps away from their conventional romantic roles, we asked Win and Prim how they got into the shoes of Enigma’s Fa and Ajin.
“It is not something that happens in our daily lives…”
Prim explains the preparation: “Before we started filming we prepared a workshop for each character. It was necessary to do many exercises so that they could be used in the production. It’s due to the difficulty of this TV series, that requires high imagination as it is not something that happens in our daily lives. It’s quite challenging! I further did a table to separate the character Fa and other roles I have played to see the difference – each ‘super objective’ of each character, and also looked for the definition of each episode.”
Win adds: “I agree that the character is very challenging because it’s the first time I’ve played a role like this. Preparation included talking to the director, and attending many workshops. As well as extra learning regarding acting to brush up more of my skills for this particular story.”
The fashion world and the acting industry are battling it out to win.
Metawin Opas-iamkajorn is a true success in fashion, entertainment and media. He made his acting début with 2020 Drama 2gether The Series before becoming the Prada global ambassador.
The star who is performing on stage one day, then gracing high-end fashion events the other, you must wonder – how does he do it all?
The 24-year-old’s answer echoes his utmost sincerity and dedication toward his craft.
Win says: “First of all, I would like to heartily thank everyone for their trust in me. For every task that I’m given, I conduct research in order to gather relevant information. I put efforts to perform every job to the fullest and also keep improving myself in each line of work that I receive regularly.”
Prim’s impressive journey – Acting from a young age to bagging a lead role
Chanikarn is a veteran of the world of acting. She has worked in it since an early age. Her first acting gig dates back to 2014 – when she should’ve been around the age of 10.
Prim’s impressive resume includes guest and supporting role credits. From channeling sincere emotions to tugging at viewers’ heartstrings – her portrayal of Kaning in the 2021 series F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers brought the spotlight on the 19-year-old.
Prim reflects on her journey: “First of all, I would like to thank my seniors who trust my performance and let me play this character. Many thanks! When looking back on my journey as an actress – I feel like it was very valuable and I could learn many things from these experiences. Each opportunity, from a tiny chapter to the one of a hero is very valuable for me. Also, I want to thank my self for never giving up on the journey until today. And I believe that I will continue to walk steadily on this path.”
“As for the role that I want to do in the future – it probably lies with something that is original. Both the storyline and the characters, interesting chapters, challenging abilities that drive us to really want to act,” Prim adds.
Win and Prim won hearts in F4 Thailand Boys Over Flowers with their special chemistry. Enigma came about after fans demanded that they star together in a project.
Prim gets candid about working with Win: “As we have worked together before, maybe not a lot of scenes together, but it allowed us to know the rhythm of each other’s performance. We were able reciprocate our emotions better while filming. There was a shot where Fa’s emotional scene had to keep building up. P’Win instantly matched the intensity and helped in keeping the mood steady. It is easier to work with him on difficult scenes. He also helps in making the shooting atmosphere more relaxed, and not tensed from what we are used to.”
Win also gushes: “Having the opportunity to play with Nong Prim before, I have to say, it helps a lot in terms of chemistry and the rhythm of playing together. Nong Prime is an excellent on-screen co-star. We both know each other’s acting rhythms and support each other throughout filming. This makes it easier to work and creates a flow. There would be some scenes where we improvise the dialogues to make the performance turn out as natural as possible.”
Win and Prim discuss their favorite moments from working on Enigma.
Prim says: “Like the emotional scene I mentioned earlier, that’s a memorable time from filming. We had another occasion when we needed to film a large sequence for two nights in a consecutive row. The time was when both chapters of the film were long and we had to work longer hours. We tried to concentrate more on the scenes we played so we could finish the day’s filming faster, so there will be more time to prepare for the next day’s acting homework. Our ability to match paces and work in tandem was an excellent collaboration. P’Win also brought snacks for me, thank you very much for that.”
Win adds: “She is a very talented person, which allowed me to learn from her performances and adapt them myself. Nong Prim is a kind of acting partner who always helps convey emotions perfectly, even when the camera doesn’t capture her face. We always support each other.”
