Does Meg 2 The Trench kill Pippin or Jonas? HITC investigates and provides spoilers.
As a subgenre, shark movies can be characterized as a “mixed tank”. From Jaws to Sharknado some directors play it straight while others are as silly as they can be. In the case of The Meg, a comfortable middle ground was found, with Jason Statham‘s Jonas tasked with facing down the titular and ferocious megalodon. In the sequel, the giant behemoth joins a host of monstrous creatures that have emerged from the ocean’s depths. The sequel to Meg 2 is now available. With the promotional material teasing that a dog would be in danger, do you think Jonas and the canine will survive? Warning: Spoilers ahead.
Is Pippin dead in Meg 2 The Trench?
Pippin the dog gets into some incredibly dangerous situations in Meg 2: The Trench, alas, the dog doesn’t die.
Pippin’s barking in the movie trailer caused a lot of concern among the audience. Not only that, but the movie’s official page also showed a clip of the dog facing off against the creatures, with one shot showing it chomping into one of the octopus’ tentacles.
“Save the dog!” somebody shouts in the clip, with Jonas saying “Be right back” before diving into the waters to save it when it’s attempting to swim to land.
Although the dog is in the middle of the carnage, we’re glad to report that no dogs are killed in this Ben Wheatley-directed sequel.
At the end, you may recall that Pippin was the dog in the first movie. Sophia Cai plays Meiying who accompanies the pet to the beach.
What happens to Jonas in Meg 2 : The Trench?
The Trench is the last episode of Meg 2 where Jonas survives to another day.
There’s a huge showdown that involves numerous creatures from the titular trench, with Jonas and others tasked with taking on powerful threats on Fun Island in the final act.
Numerous lives of civilians are lost as a result of the monsters’ arrival, but when the authorities arrive on the scene we find Jonas after having killed one of the megalodons with harpoons tricked out with explosives.
Both the second Meg as well as the Octopus are also killed.
However, that doesn’t mean that the horrors of the trench are done with being unleashed; the ending teases the potential for a third outing.
‘There’s unfinished business’
The Meg 2: The Trench director was asked by Screenrant if he’d like to dip his toes into the Godzilla Monsterverse after diving into the world of monster movies with his latest film.
