What these Scenes from The Boys Look Like without Special Effects

The first episode ends with Homelander’s cruel remarks being revealed to the audience. Homelander appears alongside the Baltimore mayor and his son as they board a plane. Homelander had been previously blackmailed by Vought, the superhero company that the mayor tried to blackmail. Use his laser eyes for the best way to bring down the plane. The supervillain (or superhero?) As the plane burns, the pilot smiles and falls through the clouds.

Starr was filmed by the crew hanging from wires and viewed through a greenscreen to create this shocking scene. To create the final effect, they combined the footage with CGI. Homelander used his laser eyes several times throughout the show. It was during this scene that his most memorable superpower was refined by the visual effects team.

“There’s also a lot of subtlety and a lot of breakup in those lasers that make them slightly unique from your average CG laser eye gag and they play into his character,”Notes Fleet “I think that the timing and the tempo and the rhythm of when we fade them up and down, we use his performance to really gauge that.”

“The final shot is really [director] Dan Trachtenberg’s vision in doing a slow wrap-around reveal of Homelander’s character,”Fleet added “So, you get the plane ripping in half, which is awesome, it’s probably the biggest spectacle thing we have in that episode, and then we meander the camera over to Homelander and see that little bit of a smile on his face and you realize, ‘Oh this guy’s a sociopath.'”

The Supes’ incredible attention to detail makes them almost seem real… but after watching this show, we are glad that they aren’t!
