What are the Blue Beetle credits scenes? Do they feature DCEU characters?

Do DCEU cameos appear in Blue Beetle’s post-credits scene? HITC investigates.

Superheroes haven’t dominated the conversation quite so much when it comes to blockbusters in 2023, but that doesn’t mean that the summer doesn’t have its fair share of caped crusaders soaring onto screens to defend against Barbenheimer. Serving as an exciting origin story for a DC Comics character, Blue Beetle was directed by Ángel Manuel Soto and stars Xolo Maridueña (of Cobra Kai fame) as the titular hero Jaime Reyes. Fans are curious if the DCEU’s fourteenth film teases anything else and if the strings feature recognizable characters. What are the Blue Beetle’s post-credits sequences and will DCEU characters appear in them?

How many Blue Beetle scenes are there after the credits?

Blue Beetle has two credits scenes in total, so be sure that you remain seated until the very end if you’re headed out to see the movie.

The first is the most pivotal in teasing what’s to come for the franchise, and that scene takes place mid-way through the credits.

However, there’s also a fun little stringer right at the very end of the credits, just after the last bit of text has finished scrolling. While the first is the one that audiences will be sticking around for, the second is a cool nod to the Blue Beetle director’s Latino heritage that audiences are sure to enjoy.

Do Blue Beetle after-credits scenes have DCEU cameos?

Blue Beetle’s two post-credits scenes don’t roll out cameos of DC Comics characters from the DCEU’s past.

It makes sense, considering James Gunn’s clarification that Blue Beetle was the first DCU Character and that the upcoming Superman: Legacy will be the first DCU full movie.

Blue Beetle can therefore be viewed as something of a “bridge” installment. Blue Beetle introduces audiences to a new character who is sure to get them invested in DC Universe, and later on will be a Superman movie.

Mid-credits scenes may not include cameos of DCEU stars like Wonder Woman or Shazam. But they do set stakes and establish the possibility for Blue Beetle to be a sequel.

‘This is a choice that they’ve made’

Raoul Max Trujillo was recently interviewed by Screenrant on how he sees Blue Beetle fitting into the franchise in the future.

“Finally they said that Blue Beetle would be the first in the new universe,” he Comment?.

“I don’t know if that means that everything that comes with Blue Beetle comes along for the ride as well, because Carapax is a huge figure in the world of Blue Beetle. Other than what I’ve read recently with this new mantle that this is a choice that they’ve made, is to carry Blue Beetle forward.”

He added: “And I just hope that the rest of us go along for the ride as well.”

Blue Beetle will be in theatres this Friday, August 18, 2023.
