Viola Davis and ‘The Woman King’ are set for a world premiere at TIFF

“The Woman King,”Viola Davis’ action and historical epic will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

“The Woman King” from TriStar Pictures joins Billy Eichner’s “Bros,” Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion” and Sanaa Lathan’s “On the Come Up”All of them will be making their world premieres at this festival.

The 47th Annual TIFF runs September 8-18.

“The Woman King”This film is inspired by the Agojie story, an all-female unit made up of warriors. They protected the African kingdom of Dahomey in 1800s with skillsets that were unmatched and fierceness unlike any other. The film features Davis as General Nanisca, who prepares the next generation of recruits for battle against the enemy determined to destroy their way.

Lashana Lynch, Lashana Lynch (Sheila Atim), Hero Fiennes Tiffin, John Boyega, and Thuso Mbedu are also in the film. Prince-Bythewood directed the film from a story written by Maria Bello, Dana Stevens and Stevens. Stevens also wrote the screenplay. “The Woman King”Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Julius Tennon, and Cathy Schulman produced the film. Peter McAleese serves as executive producer. Entertainment One (eOne) cofinanced the film.

Sony released the first trailer recently for “The Woman King,”This film can be viewed here. It will open in theaters on September 16, following its premiere at the world’s largest film festival.
