Twitter Sets a Date for Special Stockholder Vote on Elon Musk Sale

Twitter has set Sept. 13 as the date for a special meeting to elect Musk to be its shareholder. It’s the month before a trial set for October in Delaware Chancery Court where the social media company hopes to force the billionaire Tesla founder to actually follow through with his $44 billion purchase agreement.

The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. PT. Stockholders can also vote online to support the merger. On April 25, the two sides reached a grueling all-cash agreement. Musk secured financing but soon began to wiggle, asking for information about bot accounts or spam. Twitter was informed by Musk’s attorneys in July that he had officially ended the agreement.

Twitter sued Chancery Court and asked for a speedy September Trial. The Musk camp requested that the proceeding be moved to February. At a hearing last week, she tilted to Twitter’s side, agreeing with the company that delay and uncertainty would continue to damage its business.
