She would have been perfectly happy for him to propose in their kitchen. Lautner agreed, but he added something to the kitchen to make it more special. Lautner describes it this way:
This is what I love most about her: She always has said it. ‘I don’t want anything special, I don’t want anything big and grand. Do it in the kitchen.’ I love cooking, so I make us food all the time in the kitchen, and we just eat at the counter. And she’s like, ‘One night after we eat, like in the kitchen. That’s all I want, simple.’ So I did do it in the kitchen, but I did it big in the kitchen. While she was gone, I received tons of flowers, candles, and the sign. After a long day at work, she finally came home and found the sign. It was a beautiful surprise.
