Tricks to Avoid Injuries in Pumpkin Carving

People who carve pumpkins sustain injuries during the spooky season. Those who end up in urgent care after cutting themselves by mistake may think they’re alone in injuring themselves, but the Halloween tradition is responsible for nearly 2,000 injuries each year.

Dr. Duretti Fufa is a leading hand surgeon at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery. He tells Inside Edition that there are some tips people can use to stay safe while enjoying the old traditions.

She says to be careful not to allow your hand to slip or slide down the blade.

Her other observation is that pumpkin carving kits are safer than using knives.

She suggests that you use a sawing motion, not a stabbing, and that you never cut towards your hand.

Another tip is: When carving a pumpkin, be sure to not put your hand in it.
