Tottenham fans think Daniel Levy should have sold Harry Kane and “done a Coutinho”

Tottenham fans believe chairman Daniel Levy should have sold Harry Kane and “done a Coutinho” after his dismal display in their defeat to Chelsea.

Philippe Coutinho was sold by Liverpool to Barcelona for an initial £105 million plus add-ons in 2018.

They brought in a number key players with the proceeds from his sale, such as Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk.

With their new group of players under Jurgen Klopp, they went on to win the Champions League in 2018–19 season and Premier League for the first time in their history in 2019–20 season.

Spurs fans feel Levy, who had fought tooth & nail with Manchester City when they bid to sign the striker in June, should have stopped fighting and taken the money and rebuilt the team without their second-most goalscorer.

Spurs were thrashed by Chelsea 3-0, with Kane cutting a frustrated figure.

One disgruntled fan phoned in BBC Five Live and said: “The last two performances have shown that actually, we should have sold Kane.”

Another tweeted, which got over 1,000 likes, said: “Should have sold Kane when we had the chance and rebuilt this team like Liverpool did with Coutinho”

Kane has so far failed to register a goal in the Premier League this season – scoring on two occasions in the Europa Conference League.

Following the encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Roy Keane provided a no-nonsense assessment of his performance.
