Japan’s ColorBird Inc., is launching a trio of new titles at TIFFCOM, the rights market that accompanies the Tokyo International Film Festival, and which is this year held online only.
Latest is “Winny,”This drama film is based on facts and depicts the arrest of a software developer by the police. The story is about the people who fight for justice and protect engineers’ rights. The film is directed by the talented young Matsumoto Yusaku with the lead character played by Higashide Masahiro, star of Hamaguchi Ryusuke’s “Asako I&II.”It will be released in Japan on March 20, 2023.
Released slightly earlier in January “Thorns of Beauty.” The revenge thriller is a remake of Hong Kong director Pang Ho-cheung’s “Beyond our Ken in which two girls fall in love with the same man and forge a secret friendship. It has been reimagined as a modern girls’ movie by popular director Jojo Hideo and a charming cast that includes Matsumoto Honoka, Tamashiro Tina and Watanabe Keisuke. The girls, initially rivals in love, eventually break into the home of a photographer to gain his secrets. They are forced to hide when he returns home early.
Jojo was director of 2020’s “Around the Edge of the Stand,” “Dangerous Drugs of Sex”(2020) “Believers.”Both of the above films were shown at the Bucheon International Fantastic Movie Festival in Korea. “Love Nonetheless”The Udine Far Eastern Film Festival’s best screenplay award was won. “Thorns”Co-written by Sawai Kaori.“Just Only Love”).
“Spring In Between”Katsu Rika directed this romance, which was the winner of a Kando Film Awards movie treatment contest. The story follows a female magazine editor as she struggles with her relationship with a boyfriend who lives in her home. She meets Miyazawa Hio who portrays a renowned painter who is having communication issues.
