These socks claim that they will keep you safe on planes and prevent jet lag

FLIGHT socks are an effective way to avoid some of the negative effects associated with flying. All you have to do is squeeze your legs.

The science behind socks is very simple. By applying gentle pressure on our lower legs, we can increase blood circulation and reduce the risk of developing deep veinthrombosis (DVT).

It’s not an ideal system, and socks can cause blood circulation problems during flight.

Sportswear manufacturers should be aware of this. KymiraThe technology has been further developed to reduce the adverse effects of plane travel on the bodies.

Infrared technology can be integrated into your Flight socks, available for £35, they say that they can target problem areas, minimise the chances of life-threatening problems and even stave off the effects of jet lag.

Sun Online Travel’s Tim Brownstone, Kymira’s founder, said that the targeted treatment increases blood flow in trouble areas and can reduce pain.

Standard compression socks can cause oedema.

“They are just designed to increase muscle effectiveness and bring blood back up to your heart. However, with Kymira socks, our infrared technology causes the blood vessels open up and dilates, allowing blood flow to more freely as well as the compression you would expect from a normal flight.

“The real big benefit is that you can get the effects of being active, like you would from rolling your ankles or going for a walk, while being completely sedentary, because the socks are causing that dilation. And that’s where the big difference comes in.”

Athletes have started wearing the socks as well as people who are medically more at risk

Longer flights can make us tired and stiff. This is because blood doesn’t circulate as well as it should.

Your body will experience fewer physical effects by increasing blood flow.

Tim explained, “That blood flow increase helps. Your calves act as big pumps. Your calves are big pumps. They can help you move, but they also have the ability to return blood to the heart.

“If you sit still for too long, your blood can pool. This is why you develop oedema.

“Keeping that blood flowing, helps to reduce some of the detrimental effects of jet lag when you’re on a long flight.”

Flight socks are often viewed as an item that is only for certain individuals at high risk of complications. However, Tim says more and more people are beginning to use them, including fitter and younger athletes.

Many report feeling even better after using the infrared technology to target their legs.

He said, “If you are older, if your blood pressure is low, or indeed, if your blood pressure is really high, that can lead to oedema.”

“And, similarly, you could have a variety of medical conditions that put you in a higher risk group, or just cause you to get more swollen and inflamed.

“It might not be necessarily life-threatening. Although our younger customers are less likely to have a DVT, it is still a concern for them.

“Athletes that use our products are physically fine. They’re all for the most part in their mid 20s to mid 30s and they’re wearing them because it’s enhancing their athletic performance, allowing them to step off a plane in a better condition than they stepped on rather than deteriorating during that flight.”

You can reduce the likelihood of having to use medical assistance or jetlag while on board planes, regardless of whether you are wearing flight socks.

Tim explained that it was just more comfortable to be seated for so long. The body will stiffen and inflame. There are several things you can do.

Some of them can be dietary. You can consume or drink certain foods and drinks that could stimulate the production of Nitric Ox, such as dark chocolate, beetroot juice, citrus, garlic, leafy greens, citrus, and ginger.

“This will reduce inflammation.

“Ultimately, you just want to make yourself as comfortable as possible without sitting in an awkward position – and stay as mobile as you can be.”

You may get DVT if you wear tight clothing on planes.

You can feel more comfortable on a flight if you choose the right seat.
