Research has shown that mulberry leaf tea can drastically lower blood sugar levels.

According to a study published in The Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences, it can balance the effects of spikes after eating.

The experiment involved 20 type 2 diabetic patients who were offered bog-standard tea while 28 others were given mulberry tea.

After breakfast, blood samples were taken. The glucose levels were checked after 90 minutes of drinking 70ml of tea with 1 teaspoon sugar.

Researchers discovered that the aforementioned was true. “very large”Drinking mulberry tea results in a drop in blood sugar. “highly significant”.

They said: “Mulberry tea suppresses postprandial rise of blood glucose levels after 90 min of its consumption.”

Type 2 diabetes can be managed by controlling your diet and monitoring what causes sugar spikes.

Knowing the importance of weight loss for those with type 2 diabetes, researchers led by the University of Glasgow wanted to conclude the most effective way of doing it, publishing their findings in the journal Diabetologia.

They looked at low-calorie diets, low carb, high protein, vegetarian, Mediterranean and high healthy-fat diets.

Researchers only recommended a low-calorie diet of 500 to 1500 calories per day.

This is because thousands of people with type 2 diabetes are likely to be unaware.

This condition is often overlooked because it can be hard to spot or dismissed as another thing.

People can live for up to 10 years with type 2 diabetes – the most common type – before being diagnosed, charities say.

Already some 4.9 million people in the UK are estimated to have diabetes, of which there are various forms.

According to the NHS the symptoms of type-2 diabetes that you should be aware of are:

  3. Feeling tired
  4. Weight loss without any effort
  5. Thrush is a constant itching of your genitals.
  6. Longer healing time for cuts and wounds
