Two of the UK’s biggest soap stars took part in a First DatesSketch as part Children in Need 2021 with an unexpected appearance from EmmerdaleThe end is the most important.
The skit shows Corrie’s Steve McDonald and Eastenders character Janine Butcher meet in the iconic restaurant — with hilarious results.
The First datessketch was part BBC’s star-studded Children in Need programme which raised more than £39 million for thousands of UK charities.
Fred Sirieix, a host, greets nervous Steve at the restaurant before ordering a double whiskey.
Janine, played by Charlie Brooks, got straight to the point when she turned up and told Sirieix that she’s broadening her dating pool beyond London and wanted to check out the talent in Manchester.
Janine choked on her vodka tonic after Janine asked him if he had ever been married. He replied that he was married seven times. Janine joked that she had been married four times and revealed that she was a divorcee. “only killed two of them”.
As the couple sit down to dinner Janine loses her temper after Steve insults her.
“I asked for a millionaire businessman, preferably in his 80s, not a wife-collecting cabbie,”Sirieix was her first call.
Steve protested “Excuse me, what is going on here? I only come in for a pie.”
Steve revealed that he has a wife at his home after revealing this to Steve. “who actually looks stable compared to that thing here”, Janine asked if Steve isn’t her date, then who is?
Enter Emmerdale’s Eric Pollard.
The James BondTheme sounded when Eric, played by Chris Chittell swooped in to say: “The name is Pollard, Eric Pollard. Eric Pollard, licensed to thrill.”
Janine dismissed Steve before Eric took his place.
