‘SNL’ A Tribute to Former Cast Member and Writer

Peter Aykroyd, former Saturday Night LiveCast member and writer have died. The sketch show on NBC paid tribute to SNL alum following Simu Liu’s eventful hosting debut.

Saturday Night Live revealed the actor-writer’s death with a tribute card that displayed a picture of the previous featured player the years of his birth and death. The Ottawa native, who was born on November 19, 1955, is older brother to actor Dan Aykryod.

His first venture into entertainment began with minor roles. The New Avengers SCTV. In 1979 he joined Saturday Night LiveAs both a writer, and as a featured actor. In the same year he starred as Joe in Tom Schiller’s short film Java Junkie.

His year-long tenure was at Saturday Night Live, Aykroyd received an Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program for SNLSeveral other writers shared it.

He invented Chronicles of the Paranormal: PSI FactorThe 1991 film was co-written by him. Nothing But TroubleWith his brother. He also acted in several titles throughout the 1990s, including Nothing But Trouble, Coneheads, The Blues Brothers Animated Series Justice.
