Simon Pegg gives an honest update on Star Trek Franchise

Fans have been waiting to hear more about the sequel to 2016. Star Trek Beyond. It was announced that there would be a new Star TrekMovie is dated 2023 but not much else has been known. It appears even the franchise stars haven’t heard much about a sequel, and Simon Pegg recently got very honest about what’s currently happening with the sci-fi film series.

The Mission: Impossible 7 star gave Collider a mini update on what’s happening with Star Trek 4. Simon Pegg isn’t as informed about the status of sci-fi film series as are viewers. J.J. Abrams the producer and Matt Shakman the writer appear to be kept in the dark by the studio. Pegg opened about how current circumstances like COVID have continued to hinder the franchise’s future, saying:

I don’t know much. Matt seems like a great guy, I have only met him briefly. His work on WandaVision is amazing. These things are always in the waiting, as the world is unpredictable. COVID has spun everything around. It’s not easy to make these things happen. There are so many factors. I’m waiting quietly for news. J.J. texted me the other day, and I said, “Tell me about what’s going on.” He replied, “We are waiting for news.” I would love to see more adventures within the Kelvin universe. Any chance to work with these actors is an opportunity I will not miss. It’s a great opportunity, and I will jump at it.

According to Simon Pegg, J.J. Abrams hasn’t heard any news either on the sequel’s status. That’s a big deal, as Abrams has been steering the beloved franchise since the reboot premiered in 2009. Paramount Pictures seems to have decided to put the film series in limbo. Simon Pegg, at least, is open to doing another film with his cast. Pegg said that it could be difficult because it’s not known if Chris Hemsworth nor Chris Pine will still be involved. It will be sad that Anton Yelchin (who played Pavel Chekov) has passed away, as Pegg mentioned. Star Trek Beyond premiered.
