Selena Gomez opens her heart for the world in her new documentary. My Mind & Me. The AFI Festival, Hollywood, premiered the documentary. At that event, she spoke out about her Disney days and how it was difficult for her to be labelled a Disney princess. “Disney kid.”
It’s been over 10 years since Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo won the family wizard competition in the series finale of Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place. Gomez, who has made a name herself in music, film and TV after her time with the network, tells Variety that she didn’t like being known as a “Disney kid” post-Wizards:
It wasn’t necessarily me being upset with Disney itself. It was what the label was — me being a ‘Disney kid.’The experience was amazing, but the title kept going, which hurt my feelings. I just want to move on from that. I don’t want a doll of myself in Target. I just don’t. It’s a little weird.
Selena Gomez is a Disney legend and has many positive comments to share about her Disney experiences. Wizards co-stars previously, it’s not surprising to hear that she feels this way. It’s impossible to be defined by one point in your life, especially when you are young. Plus, she is 30, so it makes complete sense that she wouldn’t want to be associated with that “kid” label.
Selena Gomez is evidently still close to her. Wizards of Waverly Place co-stars. She’s had several holiday meet-ups with the Wizards Cast and worked on the movie This Is The Year With David Henrie, her brother on the screen in 2020. It’s clear that while she does want to move past being labeled as a Disney kid, that time in her life will always remain special to her.
Selena Gomez is not concerned about her Disney years. In 2021, she addressed some of her past comments about Disney, saying that she was addressing them now. “beyond proud”Her work in the network.
