“Rust” Police Report Details Chaos in Set Before Shooting

Two weeks later, the final police report regarding the fatal shooting “Rust”Alec Baldwin handed over DP Halyna Hutchins to the local D.A. in October. The document has now been made public.

The report, which is 540 pages long, reveals that the set was in chaos before the Oct. 21st shooting. It also includes a list of events and inventory from local police, FBI, and other sources.

According to the police report, there were issues with Hannah Gutierrez Reed, head armorer. She claimed that she was informed that the gun had been cleared. Gutierrez­Reed and her crew experienced issues that included “negligent discharges,”Ross Addigo said that there was a dollie grip when the incident occurred. Gutierrez-Reed was in the process of preparing one of six guns, when one of the revolvers veered toward her foot.

Minutes later at the cabin set, a discharged gun went off that wasn’t announced, which would have been the AD Dave Halls’ responsibility to announce.

Ross also pointed out that six cameramen walked off the set the day before the incident and that Lane Luper (head of the camera department) wrote a letter to the production regarding the mishaps.

Mary Carmack Altwies, New Mexico District attorney, has not charged anyone at the moment. “Rust” incident. The D.A.’s office had no comment at this time in response to the report.

“The district attorney and her team of investigators and prosecutors will now begin a thorough review of the information and evidence to make a thoughtful, timely decision about whether to bring charges,” the DA’s office said in a statement upon initially receiving the report from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s department.

“As with all cases that the District Attorney handles, her focus will be on upholding the integrity of the process, enforcing the laws of the state of New Mexico, and pursuing justice,” the DA’s office also said.

The Hutchins’ estate settled with “Rust”Baldwin and producers. On Nov. 11, Baldwin filed a civil suit against Gutierrez-Reed, Halls, and property master Sarah Zachry, and weapons and rounds supplier Seth Kenney.
