One Piece: Red box office collection

The One Piece: Red movie opened in Japanese theatres on August 6th and has been met with an extremely positive reception from avid fans and critics alike.

On August 25th, the production’s official Twitter page shared that more than 7.2 million people had watched the film in cinemas, exceeding 10 billion Japanese Yen at the box office.

Incredibly, that’s around $72 million and as reported by Crunchyroll, is now the highest-grossing anime film from Toei Animation.

“One Piece Film: Red is also the second-fastest film in Japan to reach the 10 billion yen milestone surpassing the mark 5 days ahead of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. Spirited Away once held that record for nearly two decades until Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train shattered the record in October 2020.” – Crunchyroll.

As of September 3rd, the box office collection for the film has sailed past the 12 Billion Japanese Yen milestone (around $85 million) with more than 8.6 million tickets being sold.

Manga author Eiichiro Oda would then share a special commemorative illustration on Shanks’ wanted poster in celebration of the new milestone – see below.

“Despite opening nearly a month ago, One Piece Film: Red continues to dominate the Japanese box office, with the official Twitter account for the anime film announcing tonight that it has delivered a bounty of more than 12 billion yen in a mere 26 days, being the second-fastest film to do so in Japan after Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train.” – Crunchyroll.
