Earn up to $15,000 to Relocate to This Midwest City: Here’s How You Can Get Paid to Move

A CITY that boasts easy navigation and a vibrant local art scene is offering to pay workers up to $15,000 to move there. The Midwest haven is one of several US towns advertising cash incentives to bolster their working population.

Experience Topeka: A City Offering $15,000 to Workers Relocating

Since 2019, Choose Topeka has offered a relocation incentive for anyone interested in moving to Topeka, the capital of Kansas. Over 6,000 people have applied for the program, and so far 150 have been granted the payout that’s provided through employer match funding. Anyone given the incentive is required to stay in the city for at least one year, but nearly 95% of recipients have decided to stay for the foreseeable future, according to Robert Ross, senior vice president of marketing and communications with Go Topeka.

The Benefits of Choosing Topeka

“People love how accessible and friendly our community is,” he told CNN. “With around 175,000 residents in Topeka, the city is very easy to navigate and recipients quickly learn that ‘Midwest nice’ is a way of life here.”

What Choose Topeka Offers

Choose Topeka is offering the opportunity to remote workers, transitioning veterans, or people who have recently left military service. Native Topeka residents who left the city can earn up to $5,000 if they come back for a job that pays at least $50,000. “Topeka is small enough to be shaped by big dreams, yet big enough to have everything you need for a dream life,” the Choose Topeka website reads. “This exciting program partners with Shawnee County employers to select talented professionals like you to relocate to Topeka and the Shawnee County community.”

Quality of Life in Topeka

Topeka residents are known for scoring high on emotional well-being polls. The city is also more affordable than cities like Chicago, Denver, and Houston and the cost of living is cheaper than the national average, according to real estate website Movoto.

Interesting Attractions and History

There’s a strong religious history in Topeka, and many consider it the birthplace of Christian Pentecostalism. Sports fans can stop by the Landon Arena to watch the city’s Tier II Junior A ice hockey team, the Kansas Koyotes. And Kansas City, Missouri, is just one hour away for any NFL fans wanting to catch a Chiefs game.

How Choose Topeka’s Incentive Works

Choose Topeka is offering a $15,000 moving incentive to workers who relocate to Kansas’ capital. Applicants must first confirm whether their employer participates in the incentive. They must either move for a full-time position or be working remotely. Those who are accepted are required to live in the city for a minimum of one year.

Exploring Other Moving Incentives

Topeka isn’t the only city offering free cash for those looking to move. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, remote workers and entrepreneurs can make up to $10,000 if they get chosen for the Tulsa Remote program. Ascend West Virginia is another program offering payouts for anyone looking to move to the Appalachian state. And many more moving incentives can be found on the recruiting website MakeMyMove.
