Nominations for TV at the Succession Sweeps Directors Guild Awards

The Directors Guild of America (USA) has announced its nominees in its television categories. “Succession”The drama-series category was swept by five nominations for episodes.

1983 was the last year that a single series won all of the nominations for the category. “Hill Street Blues”Every slot was taken by a program that had only three nominations at the time. Drama and comedy have never won all five nominations in any DGA Awards series category.

Comedy series are: “Ted Lasso”Three of the five slots were taken by me, “Hacks” “The White Lotus”The remaining two should be taken.

Barry Jenkins and others were nominated for the category for TV movies and limited series. “The Underground Railroad,”Barry Levinson & Danny Strong, for their separate episodes of “Dopesick,” Hiro Murai for “Station Eleven”Craig Zobel “Mare of Easttown.”

Bo Burnham, for his special, is one of the other nominees “Bo Burnham: Inside”Kathryn Bigelow and Steve Jobs for an iPhone 13 commercial.

Netflix’s South Korean sensation “Squid Game”The DGA Awards were not open to him.

The guild also announced its nominees for documentary directing. These were Jessica Kingdon and John Kingdon. “Ascension,”Stanley Nelson “Attica,”Raoul Peck “Exterminate All the Brutes,”Questlove is for “Summer of Soul” and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin for “The Rescue.

In the documentary-feature category, it’s normal for two or three of the DGA nominees to go on to receive Oscar nominations in the Best Documentary Feature category. Four of this year’s DGA doc nominees are on the 15-film Oscar shortlist in that category.

On Thursday, the DGA Awards will announce its nominees for feature films. The Producers Guild and Writers Guild also will announce their film nominations.
