Researchers claim it has “enormous” potential.

They believe in the “Holy Grail” test could prevent ten per cent of cancer deaths — saving 16,000 lives a year in the UK.

Following the test results, hundreds of volunteers were referred to a scan and colonoscopy.

Around half of the people referred may have cancer.

It’s hoped it will be rolled out nationwide.

These tests will be available to a million more people by 2024.

If the screening program is fully operational, it will refer 130,000 additional people with no symptoms of cancer.
