Netflix Unveils 3 APAC Series – Global Briefs

Netlfix unveiled three new series from the APAC region. Boy Swallows UniverseAustralian comedian John Collee will adapt the book to make it into a one-hour eight-minute show. John ColleeMaster and CommanderBrouhaha Entertainment Australia has adapted the story. The novel is a coming-of-age story set in Brisbane’s violent working class suburban fringe.

Separately, the streamer is set Copycat KillerMiyabe Miyuki, genre fiction writer, has written a translation of the Japanese crime novel Mohohan. Chang Jung-chi, Chang Hengju and Ruby Lin will direct the project from Taiwan. It will be produced by Greener Grass Production, which was behind Netflix’s Chinese-language series The Victims’ Game.

Netflix has finally arrived. Let’s Get DivorcedJapan. Kankuro Kudo wrote the family sitcom. Ikebukuro West Gate Park,Shizuka Okishi. Tori Matsuzaka stars and Riisa Nag star. Fuminori Kaneko and Ryosuke Fukuda are the directors. The series will be released in 2023.

Nominees for IFTA Rising Star Awards

The Irish Film & Television Academy has named the five nominees for its 2022 Rising Star Award, which will be revealed during the virtual IFTA Awards on March 12. They are: Benjamin Cleary (Writer/Director – Swan Song); Colm Bairéad (Writer/Director – An Cailín Ciúin); Hazel Doupe (Actress – You Are Not My Mother); Kate Dolan (Writer/Director – You Are Not My Mother); and Sam Keeley (Actor – Kin). Saoirse Ronan, Michael Fassbender and Sam Keeley were previous winners.

BBC Studios Sells Amy Winehouse & Freddie Mercury Docs

BBC Studios has made a number of deals to produce documentaries on Amy Winehouse and Freddie Mercury. Freddie Mercury: The Final Act has been picked up by The CW Network in the U.S., Australia’s ABC and networks across Europe, while Winehouse doc Reclaiming Amy Amongst other things, the producer/distributor also sold to BBC Select in Canada and the U.S. Also sold was the producer/distributor Ten Pictures that Show Your Life To a variety of networks. The news comes as BBC Studios Showcase draws to a close, with high-profile deals with Sky Deutschland, Italy’s Mediaset and India’s MX Player unveiled earlier this week.
