Adonis Creed was a boxer who had to climb the ranks in order to be a top-notch fighter, much like Rocky. Much like Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky, Michael B. They told me they believe you must find your rhythm and pace with the first AD or actors. But it’s also like having a superpower: within your performance, you can also direct. Because you can correct yourself in real time, it saves you some time. So that’s a liberating experience to have. Once you got used to it, it was fun.
I feel like starring in the film you’re directing must be an intimidating task, especially on a film that also marks a directorial debut. Washington and Cooper both directed films that were critically acclaimed, so Jordan clearly had good advice. I’d say based on Jordan’s comments the directors/actors gave him some fantastic and impactful words of wisdom.
