Marilyn Monroe is one the most iconic and famous women of history, but much of her life is still unknown.

Netflix’s new biopic, Blonde, although fictionalised looks to pull back the curtain on the star’s life, delving into her childhood as Norma Jeane Mortensen and following her whirlwind career as Marilyn Monroe.

The film also explores several of Marilyn Monroe’s relationships, as well as her desire to one day, have children.

Marilyn Monroe was three times married

Marilyn Monroe is known for having numerous romantic partners throughout her life, something which Blonde very much doesn’t shy away from.

Monroe married three times in her entire life, including brief affairs with Charlie Chaplain Jr. and John F. Kennedy.

Marilyn married James Dougherty when she was only 16 years of age in 1942. Their relationship ended in divorce at the end of 1948.

Marilyn’s second marriage came in 1954 when she was wed to former New York Yankees baseball player Joe DiMaggio, although, after disagreements about some of Marilyn’s work, Monroe filed for divorce after just nine months.

And finally, Marilyn’s third husband was renowned playwright Arthur Miller. The pair began their relationship after Monroe’s divorce from DiMaggio and in June 1956, they tied the knot and stayed together for five years until their marriage ended in divorce in 1961.

Marilyn Monroe ever had children?

Marilyn Monroe had no children.

However, that didn’t stop her from trying as she was reportedly pregnant on three occasions throughout her life according to the 2022 Netflix documentary, Marilyn Monroe’s Mystery: The Unheard Tapes.

She was pregnant for the first time in 1956. But, after a miscarriage, she lost her baby.

Monroe’s second pregnancy came a year later in 1957 but again, she lost the child, this time because of an ectopic pregnancy, where the fertilised egg attaches to the outside of the uterus and cannot survive.

Marilyn was pregnant again while filming Some Like It Hot in 1958. Marilyn was pregnant again in 1958 while filming Some Like It Hot. In December, Marilyn had another miscarriage.

The struggles Marilyn had trying to conceive are believed to have weighed on her heavily with Some Like It Hot’s director, Billy Wilder, saying in the Netflix documentary: “She [Marilyn] was slightly discombobulated at all times. I had no problem with Monroe. Monroe had problems with Monroe. She had problems with herself.”

Marilyn suffered from endometriosis, according to reports

Marilyn Monroe’s fertility issues are linked to her reportedly suffering from endometriosis, a condition which causes cell tissue that lines the interior of the uterus to grow outside of the organ.

According to the UK’s Website of the NHSThis condition can cause severe pain during periods and fertility issues.

His 2013 book “The Book of John” Goddess: The Secret Lives Of Marilyn MonroeAnthony Summers, journalist, wrote: “The condition was so severe that it destroyed her marriages, her wish for children, her career and ultimately her life. In days before effective conservative surgery or effective medical therapies, it led to progressively increasing use of strong analgesics, tranquilisers and hypnotics – and drug dependency.”

Marilyn Monroe, who was 36 years old, died from an overdose of barbiturates in 1962. She was just 36.
