Magnolia Table, Chip and Joanna Gaines’ restaurant.

I recently spent a night at Waco, Texas. There, I explored the town made famous by Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines on HGTV. “Fixer Upper.”

I visited Magnolia Market during Silobration, and stayed over in a newly renovated house. “Fixer Upper.”For breakfast, I stopped at Magnolia Table, Chip and Joanna Gaines restaurant.

Magnolia Table is about 2 miles away from the Silos in Waco and Magnolia Market in another area of Waco. You can expect to wait for a table to open on weekends. Online reservations can be made, but I was unable to find a spot when I attempted to make one approximately a week before.

At 9:15 a.m. I was greeted by a crowd waiting to get their tables ready.

The restaurant is open daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. so many people get up early to enjoy their breakfast at this popular restaurant. It was a busy weekend in Waco because of Silobration so I decided to make it there early to ensure a spot at the table.

After I had walked up to an outdoor hostess stand, they asked me for my name. I stated that I would like to sit at the counter and not have to share a table with anyone else. They asked me for my number and informed me that it would take around 15 minutes.

Overhearing other guests looking for tables, I was told that it would take about an hour. I was grateful that it was only me eating, and that I could sit at the counter to avoid a longer waiting time.

I waited while I went to the take-out side of the restaurant.

Those who are waiting for their table to open can order coffee, pastries, or other small snacks. Guests can also order from all of the Magnolia Table menus and pick it up later if they are too busy.

My table would be ready in no time so I decided to forgo coffee and pastries. As I sat waiting on a bench by the entrance of the restaurant, I heard oldies music playing. I was able to feel a retro touch in the wait area thanks to Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday.

A sign was also posted near the front door that gave some information about the history of this building.

Magnolia Table was previously known as the second location for Elite Cafe. This diner opened in 1919 but closed down in 1953 following a tornado that devastated the town.

It was nice that the new restaurant paid tribute to the history of Waco. It was interesting for me to find out more about Waco’s history as an outsider.

Within 20 minutes I received a text confirming my table was ready.

I was welcomed into the foyer, and I saw a floor mosaic with cheery messages. “Magnolia Table: Breakfast served daily.”It set the mood for me and excited me about what I was about to eat.

The interior was simple but elegant.

The entrance was dominated by a large, black chandelier. A sign at the wall stated: “The good ol’ days are still to come.”It felt cozy and homey, but also modern.

These qualities are part of Joanna Gaines’ design style which we often see. “Fixer Upper”And the couple’s brand new show “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home.”

You will find small details such as this stone fireplace throughout the restaurant that are cozy and homey.

I was instantly reminded of the remodeled houses of my youth by plants, black-and white photographs and lots of shiplap “Fixer Upper.”The design of the restaurant was very appealing to me. It made me feel at home.

Within minutes, I was shown my table.

All around, I saw groups of people sitting at tables and the counter — it was a packed house.

I started with a pumpkin-spice latté.

I normally order my lattes with oatmilk, but I decided it was time to order my latte using whole milk. It was perfect for fall, creamy and delicious. It was tasty without being too sweet and it was easily sipped throughout my meal.

To try as many Magnolia Table pastries possible, I chose the Silos Baking Co. bread box.

A basket with blueberry muffins, zucchini breads, chocolate-chip pumpkin breads, butter croissants, and chocolate croissants was $10. The pastries were wrapped in a cloth towel and brought to my table in a wicker bag.

My waitresses also told me that they didn’t have any butter ramekins available to serve it in. Instead, I was served a large portion of apple butter.

Although I didn’t receive what I ordered, the customer service was friendly and quickly replaced my order with something similar. The apple butter was great and paired well with many other items.

The chocolate croissant was amazing.

This might be my favorite chocolate croissant. The pastry was flaky and buttery while the chocolate inside was slightly softened. It literally melted in your mouth.

Although the butter croissant was delicious, I did not like it as much than the chocolate croissant.

The pastry was light and flaky, but it didn’t have much flavor.

The croissant was made even more delicious by adding apple butter.

The tartness of the apple butter perfectly complimented the pastry.

You will find multiple slices of zucchini bread and pumpkin bread in the bread basket.

I thought the shareable basket was a good deal for the price and gave me the chance to try as many pastries at the brunch spot.

I loved the chocolate-chip pumpkin bread. I wish I could have taken a whole loaf with me.

The bread was soft and delicious. The chocolate chips were slightly bittersweet and perfectly softened. This was a wonderful autumnal combination, especially when it was paired with a little apple butter.

I also tried zucchini bread, which was the least favorite of all pastries.

Although the bread was delicious, it was not moist enough to my liking.

I think it needed some apple butter to add sweetness and flavor.

This item was saved by the apple butter.

A blueberry muffin was also included in the basket.

The muffin’s exterior was perfectly golden brown. However, I could still see some blueberries peeking through.

The muffin was perfect in sweetness and tasted like homemade.

I was not bothered by the fact that the blueberries were clumped together in their middle. They had a wonderful tart, wild flavor that I loved.

Next came the farm eggs Benedict.

Magnolia Table eggs Benedict comes with two poached egg on top of two buttermilk biscuits made by Jo. The bacon is thick-cut and drizzled in Hollandaise sauce and chives.

The entrée cost me $14, which I thought was a fair price compared to similar eggs Benedict dishes I’ve ordered in New York City, where I currently live. The only thing I wish was that the menu item came with a side of hashbrowns or some other breakfast item.

After my meal, I was satisfied.

Everyone around me seemed to be enjoying their meal just as much as I did — tables were stacked high with plates of eggs, bacon, French toast, sandwiches, and everything in between. My only regret was not being able to try every item on the menu.

Magnolia Table might be a popular destination for diners. “Fixer Upper”The atmosphere and connection with Chip and Joanna Gaines are a plus, but they will return again for the truly delicious food.

Magnolia Table had an amazing brunch. When I paid my check – which came to $35.18 in total, not including a tip — I felt like my meal was very much worth the price.

It was easy to see why people would wait up to an hour for a table and why reservations can sometimes be difficult to get. It’s all excellent. The food, decor and ambiance are top-notch. Truthfully, I still dream about those biscuits.
