American actor Tom Conti described McGillis to be a woman who was able to control her emotions and not spend them all on the screen. McGillis was considered beautiful by many, but the actress disagreed with these sentiments.

McGillis was struggling for self-worth after a while. She finally decided to get out of the spotlight and start a family. McGillis married Fred Tillman (a wealthy yachtsman) on January 15, 1989. They moved to Key West in Florida. One year later, they had an additional child.

The couple eventually reconciled but their marriage was forever altered. In 2002, the couple divorced. Being marriedFor 12 years. McGillis lost custody of her children in rehab for alcohol addiction.

“I was never dishonest with Fred about my past and history, but it was a big struggle with me.”
The actress was convinced her love for her ex was a lie, as she knew she was gay. Before she married Tillman, she had already met Melanie Leis her future partner. They met at Kelly’s bar, owned by McGillis & Tillman in 2000.

Leis and McGillis had been together for nearly a decade. McGillis and Leis exchanged their wedding vows at the Collingswood Municipal Court on September 15, 2010. This ceremony was attended by 11 friends. McGillis On the wedding day:
