It is not common to travel by rail through Ukraine. Ukrainian railways were essential transport for citizens long before the conflict. Julie Poly, a photographer, captures the culture and fashion that can be found in unassuming train cars made of metal. This is her series. UkrzaliznytsiaThe following is a compilation of incidental and staged photographs taken between 2017 and 2019, when Poly was studying to be a conductor at the Ukrainian railway company. Poly explains that “I interpret cultural and visual codes of typical Ukrainian everyday life, predominantly in the fields of eroticism, fashion, and novel notions of beauty.”Poly finds the best place to enjoy extraordinary moments of daily Ukrainian life than the trains which run across her country.
