John Wick: Chapter 4: A Newcomer explains Why It Was Terrifying For Her to See The First Edit

Keanu Reeves’ franchise has been around for nearly a decade John WickSome of the most prestigious products have been produced by Best action moviesthe greatest ever. The fourth installment in the series is just around the bend. The trailer was first shownFans got to witness John Wick’s high-octane fight against the High Table for the first time. How would it feel to be part the cast of a world that is well-established and has been praised for its action (see the best fight scenes ranked)? According to Japanese–British singer-songwriter and Rina Sawayama is a Wick franchise newcomer, it’s terrifying.

The pop singer spoke with me recently. Rolling Stone, where she spoke with fellow musical artist Shania Twain–which is only fitting since Sawayama sampled Twain’s iconic “Let’s Go Girls”Line from her hit single “This Hell.” The conversation quickly turned to Sawayama’s role in the upcoming film. John Wick Chapter 4. She revealed that she was quite shocked to see the first edit of her performance, and couldn’t recognise herself on screen. She shared the following:

Terrifying. When you are doing a music video, you’re choosing the character. I don’t feel grossed out at all looking at myself when I’m doing music videos. But in a movie, you’re contributing to making a character, but also, it’s someone else’s vision. When I first saw my edit, I was freaked out because it wasn’t me. I was like: ‘I can’It’s hard to believe that my nostrils are doing such a thing.

We can all empathize and sympathize for the indie artist. It’s difficult to not be critical of yourself while you’re on camera. This is especially true for acting. Sawayama is able to have more creative control over the character of her music video, and she also has years of experience in the art. Music videos are more like modeling than creating a character.

In the interview, Sawayama said how she downplayed the dissatisfaction she felt with her performance in front of the director and producer. She continued:

I was so happy with the performance that I said it in front of the director/producer I was actually dying inside. I was like, “Oh, fuck.” The production of this movie cost more than $100 million. I’m a newbie. It’s all a mess. Everyone else is an extraordinary actor. It was like a spiral. Now I know why actors don’t see their movies.

I’m sure the singer-turned-actress is likely being overly critical of her performance. Keanu Reeves and other producers must have noticed something different in Sawayama before casting her in the beloved action movie.

The singer’s first edit was terrifying, but it sounds like the film was made much more easily. Sawayama previously spoke out about how Reeves was a welcome guest to the new actors, and how it was a mentor behind-the scenes. The singer shared Reeves is her favorite memoryHe said that he was a calm presence during the time they spent together in the gym, getting into shape for each other’s parts. This is all the more reason to fall in love with the Matrix star. We needed another reason.
