iPhone 14 is just WEEKS away – three biggest changes to expect

APPLE looks set to launch a new iPhone in early September – but what will it look like?

Based on the leaks so far, we have compiled three of the most significant changes that we expect.

The iPhone's infamous display notch could soon be gone

A fresh new look

Apple is expected give the iPhone 14 Pro models a significant facelift.

Rumours abound pointing to the end of the “notch” – the bit of the bezel that juts out into the top of the screen.

This feature was introduced in 2017 with iPhone X.

Apple could offer a full front screen without having to use the Home button. However, the notch still contained Face ID and the selfie cam.

Since then, many Android competitors have offered full-body displays and no notch.

Apple is now playing catch up with rumours about an iPhone 14 Pro, which has two small cut-outs at the screen.

It has a small hole in the middle for the camera, and a small gap at the top for Face ID.

Expect the regular non-Pro iPhone 14 models to retain the same rough design of the iPhone 13.

Minimal

Apple’s 2020 iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max were launched by Apple in 2020.

In 2021, the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max were introduced.

For 2022, we expect a change in strategy.

Apple is said to be dropping the mini model and adding the iPhone 14 Max.

This would translate to:

  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Max
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max

This would mean the regular and Pro lines having better symmetry – and making performance and features the key differentiators.

Faster!

Apple will develop a new chip for its next iPhone.

We expect the A16, which packs even more power and is faster than the iPhone 13’s A15, to debut in September.

Apple mobiles are now known for their exceptional processing power, so it is not surprising.

However, there is talk of a slight shift this year.

Rumours suggest that the iPhone 14 regular models will continue to use last year’s A15 Bionic chips.

Insiders claim that only the iPhone 14 Pro models will be upgraded to the A16 processor.

A few more…

Here are some other features and changes that have been reported to be coming to the iPhone 14…

  • 2 Terabytes storage
  • ProMotion 120Hz display (like the iPad Pro).
  • A starting price of $799 (or £779/£799)
  • eSIMs are more popular than physical SIMs
  • New purple colour option
  • First time Titanium design
  • Some models may be able to swap to USB-C over Lightning port
  • Various camera improvements

None of this is, however.

The truth will only be revealed by Apple chief Tim Cook, who will announce the new models in September.

Don’t believe any rumours or leaks until then.
