According to Dr Jinah Yoo, a Harley Street dermatologist, the bikini area is more difficult than the rest.

According to Speaking, it is due to the fact that that region is more sensitive.

“The hairs tend to be a little curlier, and coarse in texture, this makes the area more prone to ingrown hairs and severe irritation,”She spoke.

Dr Yoo, who works with Revitacare UKAccording to, there are certain things you should do if your preference is to shave down below than opting for hair removal creams or waxing.

Sun Health was informed by her: “Shaving is the most popular way to remove hair, but it should be done with care.

“It is vital that you trim excess hair first.

“I recommend that you then wet your hair with lukewarm warm water. You can also shave in the shower by standing under the water for a few minutes to allow the steam to soften your hair before you start.

“Doing this will also help to remove any bacteria, and allow for a closer more accurate shave, meaning less risk of razor bumps or burns.”

Dr Salome Sharamshi dermatologist, founder of Sky Clinicadded that you need to be cautious when shaving your nether regions.

To avoid irritation and ingrown hairs, it’s important to purchase a tool for the bikini area.

She also said that it is important to exfoliate your skin before shaving, as this will prevent ingrown hairs.

“Use a topical exfoliator or a loofah in circular motions to gently exfoliate the area,”The Dr Sharamshi was also added.

What to Avoid

Dr Yoo stressed the importance of technique but warned that there are certain things to avoid.

She advised you to avoid pulling on your skin as it could cause severe cuts.

“Some people like to lie down, but you should always try to stand where possible whilst you are shaving – not only is it easier to see what you are doing, it is a more natural position for the skin.”

Dr Yoo stated that shaving creams are a good idea to moisturize the skin and prevent irritation.

“It is crucial that you have direction. ‘shave with the grain’This means that you should shave in the same direction as your hair grows. It’s a lot gentler, and again will save any irritation.

“Shaving in the opposite direction may be ok in less sensitive areas, such as the legs but for the bikini line, you should always shave in the direction your hair naturally grows,”Dr Yoo also added.

She said that people often forget to change the blades of their razors on a regular basis.

“It’s recommended to change your blade after seven shaves.

“If your razor is old, the blade itself may be blunt, so you won’t be able to achieve a close shave, the blade also harbours bacteria, which may upset the delicate PH levels of your intimate areas,”She accepted.
