The zombie sub-genre is going to change forever. That’s for sure. The Walking Dead was first shown on TV in October 2020. It is an adaptation of the comics series of the same title.
Developed by Frank Darabont, the American post-apocalyptic horror series was at the forefront of the undead genre’s resurgence and we saw an influx of movies and shows riding the wave.
Twelve years later though… we’re still talking about The Walking Dead.
Although its impact and legacy are irrefutable, there must be an end to all good things sooner or later. The Walking Dead’s final season has been confirmed. How many episodes remain?
How many episodes remain of The Walking Dead?
Season 11 of The Walking Dead consists of 24 episodes.
At the time this article was written [Monday, October 3rd 2022]Only seven episodes remain before the series finale.
The final season was split into three blocks, each containing eight episodes. The first bulk of the series aired in August 2021.
The season will see the end of the series, but there are a few spinoffs. Nerdist confirms.
Daryl spin-offs and a six episode anthology called Tales from the the Walking Dead introduces new characters: a Negan, Maggie spin-off, as well as a Rick, Michonne spinoff.

‘We really want it to be amazing’
Greg Nicotero, Executive Producer, spoke recently with Den of GeekThe end of The Walking Dead’s story and his hopes
“All of us, especially those of us who have been on the show since the beginning, want to go out strong. We want people to remember why they fell in love with The Walking Dead. It is no joke because we really want it to be amazing.”
He also speaks of the moment he fell in Love with it. “I really couldn’t even imagine what would have become of the show, but when you watch those first two episodes, it’s right there,”He elaborated.
“When [Morgan, played by Lennie James] is sitting at the window with his gun trying to shoot his wife’s walking corpse and he completely breaks down sobbing [it was] the minute I fell in love with the show.”
The Walking Dead will end on Sunday, November 20, 2022.
