GRAND Designs viewers broke down in tears after a couple revealed their £1.8m home after a heartbreaking health battle.

The story of Helen and John was the focus of tonight’s Channel 4 episode.

John wanted to make sure that Helen had a space so sit outside and enjoy nature

John wanted Helen to be able to sit outside and take in the beauty of the outdoors.

Two years after meeting at Newbury race, the couple got married in 2007. They lived together in a charming 17th-century farmhouse.

Their lives were changed in 2018 however.

Helen was feeling faint and had a stroke that left her in a coma. She was unable to walk for three weeks.

She was left severely disabled when she tried to get out of it. Now, she has aphasia.

Helen, a retired vet, requires a full-time caregiver – John. She relies on a wheelchair to get around.

John explained to Helen at the start of the episode that they lead separate lives. Helen lives in her barn, while John lives in the house.

The couple decided to make a leap of faith, design a place that would suit their needs and allow them to live together.

Kevin McCloud was presented by John McCloud. John stated that he wanted to create a community. “pavilion”With the help of his son Ollie.

The goal was to create a large concrete basement that would be incorporated with a spine wall of 8m high within the home’s 470 square metres.

He desired to have access to parking and an annex for a caregiver.

He stated that he wanted the garden to be as wild-life friendly as possible for his wife to enjoy.

Kevin was able to take a tour of the incredible property at the end.

Helen stated that her health is not good. “very good”She had begun walking again after moving in.

John stated: “Helen has made really great progress and is now walking and mobile in a way that I don’t think we ever envisaged as we were planning the building.”

Kevin asked: “Tell me, money, did you hit anywhere near what you expected?”

John replied: “I would think we have run over by about £500,00. Originally we were on, I think it was £1.3m.”

Kevin said: “So you’re up to £1.8m.”

John described it as follows: “worth it”They are proud to have made something.

The end result left many fans feeling emotional.
