Google Search Scooby-Doo Velma Easter Egg Unleashes Gay Pride Flags

Google showers Velma in confetti after the long-serving member of the company with gay-pride flags and confetti “Scooby-Doo”Crew has been officially confirmed as a lesbian.

Google Search queries for “Easter egg” were updated Wednesday with a new feature. “Velma,” “Velma Scooby-Doo,” “Velma Dinkley” (the character’s full name) and even “Dinkley” yield a regular search-results page — along with a cascade of multicolored confetti and various LGBTQ flags. Two buttons appear at the bottom of Google Search page. One allows you to replay the animation and the other allows you to share the search result via Facebook or Twitter.

Google Search is celebrating Velma’s coming out in the new animated movie “Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!,”This shows her crushing on Coco Diablo (the head of a syndicate of costume crime). The scenes with Velma going gaga over Diablo confirmed fans’ long-held beliefs about Velma’s sexual identity.

“Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!”The movie was released digitally on Oct. 4, for purchase or rent, and will stream on HBO Max beginning Oct. 15. The movie is described as follows: “menacing doppelgänger ghosts of the Scooby crew and favorite classic foes show up in Coolsville to threaten Halloween.”

It’s not the first time Google has hidden pop-culture Easter eggs in its search engine.
