Experts at Google say that the new features represent a major shift in the way Chrome tracks user data to benefit advertisers. TheConversation.com reported.

It has been developed since 2019, but it is not without controversy. Some users consider the Privacy Sandbox to be intrusive in regards to privacy.

Instead of third-party cookies, Chrome will be able to tap directly into your browsing history to gather information on advertising “topics”.

Third-party cookies are generated and placed on the user’s device by a different website other than the one the user is visiting.

The cookies are created by a visitor to a web page that has elements taken from another site, for example third-party advertisements or images.

Chrome’s advertising topics will replace third-party cookie tracking.

The companies that request them can view these high-level summaries to target you with ads.

Additionally, there are features such as Protected Audience that can serve you ads for “remarketing” and Attribution Reporting, that gathers data on ad clicks.

Chrome’s Privacy & Sandbox feature is the latest technology to make tech users a little nervous.
