Blonde: The plot and release date

Netflix released Blonde on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

Blonde, based on Joyce Carol Oates’ bestseller of the same title and starring Ana de Armas stars as Marilyn Monroe.

The film shows how she transforms from Norma Jeane Mortensen’s volatile childhood into one of the most well-known people in the world.

However, Marilyn’s rise to stardom isn’t an easy one as her life behind the scenes is ravaged by relationship issues, exploitation, abuses of power and drug addiction.

Blonde soundtrack

Marilyn Monroe sang in a number of the films in which she starred and so it’s no surprise that Blonde features a number of these iconic tunes in its soundtrack.

Ana de Armas doesn’t sing in Blonde

While Ana de Armas shines as the legendary Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, she doesn’t lend her voice to the various songs in the film.

In fact, it’s not the real Marilyn’s voice we’re hearing either.

Instead, that role goes to actress Vanessa Lemonides who is credited as Marilyn’s Singing Voice in the film and she does an incredible job of recreating Monroe’s iconic vocal performances.

Many people will not be familiar with Vanessa Lemonides, as the actress has appeared in many stage productions and voice roles in the likes Robots, Dora the Explorer Ice Age Continental Drift Rio 2 as well as in the video game Grand Theft Auto V.

Who was responsible for the score?

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are the composers behind Blonde’s score.

The ethereal and melodic music is accompanied with a melancholic keyboard. It almost sounds like something you would hear in a sci fi noir detective drama like Blade Runner.

Blonde’s composing duo have worked on a number of projects together over the years including The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Hell or High Water, The Proposition, Wind River as well as Netflix’s War Machine recent Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story series.

To coincide with the release of Blonde, the movie’s score has been made available on the likes of Spotify and Apple Music.

Blonde can be streamed now Netflix After releasing on Wednesday September 28, 2022.
