Drought Reveals WWII Bomb in Italy’s River Po As Body of Water Experiences Worst Dry Period in 70 Years

The River Po, Italy’s longest river, which spans more than 400 miles across the country’s north from west to east, is experiencing the worst drought in 70 years. Due to the drastic reduction in water, large sandbanks have been visible along the otherwise lush river.

A bomb from World War II was also discovered by the reduction.

Italy has declared an emergency because of the lack of snow during winter and the hot summer.

Officials say a third of the country’s agriculture producers surround the river.

Normal levels allow the river to flow through a lush landscape of rice paddies and farms when it is at its lowest.

Reports now say that farmers fear their harvests could be affected for many years due to their paddies becoming too salty from the use of water aquifers.

All they can do is hope that rain – and a lot of it – falls soon.
