Cate Blanchett to Star in Pedro Almodóvar’s A Manual for Cleaning Women

Cate Blanchett is set to star in the next film from Pedro Almodóvar, which will be the Spanish auteur’s English-language feature debut.

The film is currently in development and will be called “A Manual for Cleaning Women,”The project is an adaptation from Lucia Berlin’s 2015 collection of short stories. Berlin’s book is a witty and melancholic group of 43 stories about women working in laborious jobs across the country, including at laundromats, halfway houses and on switchboards.

“A Manual for Cleaning Women” would incredibly be Almodóvar’s first feature in English, though he quite recently made a short film, “The Human Voice,”The film starred Tilda Swainton and was released in part by Sony Pictures Classics.

Blanchett will also be producing “A Manual for Cleaning Women”Her Dirty Films banner will be used, along with New Republic Pictures and El Deseo. Blanchett and Andrew Upton will produce Dirty Films. Brian Oliver and Bradley Fischer will produce for New Republic, and Almodóvar will also produce.

Blanchett has been a two-time Oscar nominee and most recently appeared in both “Nightmare Alley” from Guillermo del Toro, and Adam McKay’s “Don’t Look Up,”Both are in the Oscar race. She’ll next be seen in “TÁR”From director Todd Field and adaptation of the videogame “Borderlands,”An adaptation of the film was also featured in Guillermo del Toro’s other projects. “Pinocchio.”

Almodóvar’s most recently directed “Parallel Mothers” starring Penélope Cruz, which is being released by Sony Pictures Classics.

Blanchett’s representation is provided by RGM Artists and CAA. Almodóvar is represented by CAA.
