Peacock’s upcoming original film They/Them will dive into the story of a group of queer teenagers that arrive at Whistler Camp. It’s a hidden sexuality conversion site where they will be receiving horrendous treatments from malicious counselors. Plot twist, there’s also a masked murderer.
Carrie Preston, who interprets one of the counselors shared her thoughts and experiences in acting out such a role – I mean, from The Good Wife to They/Them, there’s a big jump.
What does the film They/Them tell us?
John Lagon directs They/Them, a horror movie about a group LGBTQ+ teens who arrive in a gay conversion camp to confront psychological horrors and survive the relentless stalking of a mysterious killer.
They/They isn’t the typical horror plot where one character dies after another. Yes, there is a mysterious killer. But the horrors show that LGBTQ+ horror films are often scarier than those made by horror movies.

Carrie Preston is the ultimate villain in They/Them. The role of the counselor at the camp for homophobic conversation was a life-changing one for Preston. Still, she didn’t expect to feel the anxiousness of playing such an evil role.

Carrie remained focused on her character’s impact. It was therefore worth it to take on a role that was not in her Hollywood resume.
She continued: “But then I thought, ‘Hey listen, this is what the film’s about. It’s about the horrors of this thing that this woman is doing.’ So the film doesn’t really work if you don’t have that, so I was very happy to be invested in it.”
She is rarely seen as a villain.
Carrie’s most notable roles that have received critical acclaim are for the CBS drama series The Good Wife and The Good Fight for her role as the quirky and lovable Elsbeth Tascioni.
