Bobby East, NASCAR Driver Killed in Gas Station Stabbing

Bobby East, NASCAR’s star driver, died Wednesday afternoon from injuries sustained at a Westminster gas station. CBS SportsThis has been confirmed.

Three-time national champion, 37 years old, was filling up at a 76 station to top up his tank when a man approached him and stabbed him in both the chest. East was born in Torrance, California to Janice and Bob East, the USAC Hall of Famer. East, an Indiana racer, was a great success in USAC. He won 56 USAC-sanctioned titles. He also competed for NASCAR in early 2000s. Speed Sport reported in 2001 that a 16-year old East became the youngest driver to win an USAC midget race. He would go on winning the championship in 2004, and he won his second and third USAC Silver Crowns back-to-back, in 2012 and 2013.
