BBC Reporter Missile Ducks in Ukraine Conflict Worsens

After a missile was fired at him, a BBC journalist in Kyiv had no choice but to flee for cover.

Hugo Bachega, a BBC reporter was delivering an earlier report from central Kyiv when he noticed a missile close by him. He dodged and the broadcast cut to the BBC News studio. Then, he returned to Bachega from his hotel shelter to finish the report.

This incident is a reflection of the significant escalation of conflict that took place over weekend.

Kyiv was struck by at least 4 missiles this morning, while other cities like Lviv, Dnipro and Mykolaiv were also targeted.

That escalation came after a bridge, Europe’s longest, in the annexed area of Crimea was blown up on Saturday, killing three people, a move that was blamed on Ukrainian forces by the Russian Kremlin.

The retaliation was brutal, the worst fighting seen in many months in a conflict that is about to enter its ninth-month.

Ukrainian broadcasting stations continue to air United News, a joint information telethon, which provides round-the-clock news on the conflict. The BBC and other international media have also been present.
