After Olivia Newton-John’s death, where can you watch the Grease movies on streaming sites?

Looking back, the 1970s was an undoubtedly iconic decade of cinema and many would argue it’s the best there has ever been.

Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver, The Exorcist, and A Clockwork Orange were all released in that era but it wasn’t all doom and gloom on the big screen. Grease is a film that best embodies the joy of musicals.

Directed by Randal Kleiser, the American movie was released in 1978 and based on Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey’s 1971 musical of the same name.

Its oeuvre of songs is cemented in popular culture to this day and John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John’s timeless performances as Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson are simply unforgettable. Tragically, friends, family, fans, and colleagues were upset to learn of Olivia’s passing at the age of 73 on Monday, August 8, 2022.

There’s perhaps never been a better time to watch her work as we’re encouraged to remember her phenomenal presence. So, here’s where to watch the Grease movies…

Although Olivia doesn’t feature in the divisive 1982 sequel, Grease 2, you may wish to watch it after checking out its predecessor. If so, it’s available to rent on Prime video from $2.99.

What to WatchGrease, according to reports, is now available on Netflix Germany, France and Belgium. However, it’s not streaming on the platform in the US or UK.

Why wasn’t Olivia Newton-John in Grease 2?

ScreenrantPatricia Birch, Grease 2 director, reported that John and Olivia were wanted as cameos.

We would be reunited with Danny and Sandy, who run a gas station. Olivia confirms that they were approached but the idea of them returning has never been realized.

John and her had an initial chat with the studio but that was not followed up on. Ultimately, the ending just went in a different direction and the cameos weren’t essential. Screenrant reports that Olivia wasn’t totally won over by Grease 2 when it was completed.

‘Your impact was incredible’

In the wake of Olivia’s passing, John shared a post celebrating the life of his friend and co-star.

“My dearest Olivia,”He Posted on Instagram. “You made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”

Grease will never look the same.
