Q: I wonder if you could identify this plant. It is a perennial and I’m sure its flowers are pink/purple. It is spreading everywhere, not sure if it’s a weed. Jenny Woodfield, via email.

A: You’re not the first person to ask about this plant. It’s obviously the time of year where it really goes wild. It’s almost certainly Green Alkanet – which is growing everywhere at the moment. It’s a weed – but so often mistaken for forget-me-not, borage, and even comfrey!!
