Plus-size models have been featured in Sports Illustrated. She was shocked to learn that she and another model of her size were denied entry to a popular nightclub.
Ella Halikas, a model who has 700,000.00 followers on social media, is a success. Alexa Jay and Ella Halikas are both body positive influencers. However, despite their popularity they claim that a bouncer prevented them from going into a club with their thin friends.
The women were so shocked by the incident that they kept a record of their anger after it occurred.
“He looked me up and down and said, ‘Not tonight,’” Halikas says. “This is, you know, fat shaming to the core.”
“Even if I’m embarrassed, I feel like I need to talk about this,”Jay.
They are now taking a stand regarding social media.
“If you’ve experienced any kind of disclination like this, you know exactly how horrible and disgusting it feels and we are no longer letting this fly anymore,” Halikas says.
Their video, along with the hashtag #NotTonight, is going viral. It has been viewed more than 2 million times.
“We are being flooded with comments of people sharing similar stories,” Halikas says.
Owners of the club claim they don’t tolerate discrimination. They also say that the doorman was a contract worker and have since removed him from his post.
