You should never wear leggings on a flight – it could even prove fatal – The US Sun

They’re the most popular choice of clothing for millions upon millions of female holidaymakers. But, next time you go on holiday, consider wearing leggings.

Christine Negroni, who released a book on the world’s most mysterious air disasters, revealed that leggings could prove fatal – or at the very least leave terrible scars – if the plane you are travelling on crashes or has a fire in the cabin.

Sun Online Travel was informed by her that you might need to flee through a cabin or a separate ground fire once you have left the plane.

“Everyone is now wearing yoga pants on planes. But I do not recommend using any artificial fibres. They can burn or stick to you if there’s a fire.

“I’d advise wearing cotton clothes or anything made of natural fibres.”

She advises passengers to not do this on a flight that is involved in a crash.

She said, “One of best things people can to do is put on their shoes for take-off or landing. Many airlines don’t require this, but I believe it should.

“If you escape an aircraft, the floor could be very hot or cold, it might be covered in oil or on fire, or in a cornfield – you won’t want to be barefoot.

“Mainly err on the side of caution. Pick sneakers over high heels, pick natural fibres over synthetic, and take tight-fitting clothes over loose-fitting.”

Flip-flops are no good for this reason. The best option is to wear sturdy trainers. While cotton jeans offer greater protection than other trousers, they can be flipped.

It is also a good idea to be prepared for key moments during a plane trip. A study found that the majority of fatal plane crashes occur during take-off or landing. Therefore, passengers should be prepared at these crucial moments.

Dave Inch, a captain of a Boeing 787 – planes used by the likes of American Airlines and Air Canada – has shared his advice for what to do if a plane is going down.

Quora: He suggested that sharp objects should be removed from your pockets in the event of a crash. This can also cause problems.

Revealing his top tips for survival, he said: “Remove everything sharp from your pockets, loosen your belt and remove your tie or scarf and remove high heeled shoes.

“Take your glasses off for landing, so they don’t fly away and you can see your way out if needed.

“Know where your closest exit is and a backup for the type of landing [as] some exits can’t be used in water landings.”

If you want to fly in First Class more comfortably, avoid wearing jeans and trainers.

According to one flight attendant, Who, What, Wear was told by a flight attendant.Travel + Leisure: “Smart and understated. It helps to look like you are traveling often.

“Someone who is potentially due to get an upgrade can be knocked back if they aren’t dressed suitably.”

A second flight attendant was added: “No jeans or trainers — so I always go for tight black trousers and a blazer or a dress. For men, chinos or trousers and a shirt are worn.”
